Helen Levitt's New York in Pictures

Helen Levitt's influential urban photography depicts a time both far away and familiar.
via The Guardian on November 30, 2018

Brooklyn-born Helen Levitt was teaching art to children when she bought a camera to document the chalk drawings they were sketching on New York’s streets. Her works were influential but she struggled to make a living in her lifetime.

Helen Levitt: Five Decades, featuring vintage prints from the James Agee family collection, is on display at the Laurence Miller Gallery in New York until 22 December.
