Colleges and universities — complex institutions of research, learning, and socialization — are notoriously expensive to operate. The pieces in this exhibit follow the money that fuels American higher education — from its land and labor, public and private grantors, and from students themselves — and consider Americans’ attempts to reckon with the power dynamics that result.
